Does anyone know if getting the new Melanoma GEP test is a reliable test. Supposedly its used in thin melanomas and puts at low risk 3 percent or high risk 70 percent of recurrence. I see a lot of data to support this but at the same time it's an expensive test and I don't know if it's worth it.

My melanoma specialist mentioned this last time I was in. My institution was trying to decide a protocol for using this test because it is so expensive. The one thing is, though, even if you are at higher risk, there are really no treatments available to you, only increased surveillance. It would make a lot of sense to have this if there was a good adjuvant treatment available, but interferon doesn't fall into that category. I have not been back to my doc so don't know what criteria they decided to use to have the test.
