  before this is available, what types of blood tests should people with no evidence of disease be getting to monitor? LDH? anything else?

  DNA and PCR testing are not there yet, but I think they hold a great deal of hope for the future. Here are a couple of posts/articles that have encouraged me to keep my fingers crossed:
