I'm considering getting a second opinion on my pathology report. The report came back as a junctional nevus with severe atypia, wide excision recommended. I want a second opinion to make sure that there's no way it's a melanoma. I've had a stage 0 years ago. Am I being overly paranoid? Should I just accept that the lab knows what they're doing and do the excision?

So I look at it this way, do you want to have another melanoma diagnosis?  Insurance gets a little dicey with that history.  Severely atypical moles are removed with the same margins as melanoma in situ.  So I'm not sure how much you gain by a second opinion, and you may have more to lose.  As long as they plan on doing 5mm margins, does it really matter?  Do what makes you feel comfortable.  Was the path done by a dermatopathologist?  Just pointing out the flip side.

By insurance, I mean supplemental insurance or life insurance.  ACA got rid of pre-existing conditions for medical insurance.

Insurance will be unaffected for me. Yes, it was done by an in-house dermatopathologist.
