I had this large mole on my back for the past 3 years, never really noticed a change. I believed the center was always raised from the get go. I went to the local ER department to get it checked out. The 2 doctor's asked me what issues I had with it? I asked does it look like Melanoma and they told me to them it's fine, it looks benign and not to worry about it. I asked them if it looked deep and they told me no. I went to the local walk in on an unrelated matter and had him check out my mole. He looked very worrisome, asked how long I had it for and scheduled me right away to have it removed and tested. He said it look adnormal and had black spots in it. I asked him if it looked deep and he said it has some depth to it. Both there and the hospital it was a visible inspection only, touch it to see how it feels. The mole is not hard at all, you can move it around like a regular mole. Told me not to worry until the testing has been done. I am afraid what this could be, my mother had Melanoma but had it removed before it can spread. I have the removal surgery come Thursday, hoping for the best that it's benign but my head thinks differently.

Aboslutely no one, not even a dermatologist, can say whether a mole is melanoma just from looking and touching it. They also cannot tell depth. The only way to know if something is cancerous and how deep, is a biopsy. More often than not, weird looking moles come back atypical and not melanoma. It's always best to get any strange looking mole or any skin lesion that bothers you biopsied just to be safe and get a piece of mind, but just remember that they come back non-cancerous more times than they come back cancerous. Don't worry until worry is warranted. Hoping good results for you. Hang in there.

Hi there…..so not to scare you at all. I had a mole on my back checked in June that I would say kinda looked like a fried egg. My regular Dr. And ER Dr. Said it looked fine no worries. So I finally went to a dermatologist and got it checked because I was worried. It came back a week later positive for melanoma. After several surgeries and testing I found that it had moved into my lymphnodes. I had 17 lymphnodes taken from underneath my armpit and happy to say at the moment I am NED! I am taking a trial of yervoy and opdivo to hopefully keep it away. As a 33 year old this whole process has been scary but not the end of the world. It's been 5 months. I told everyone I know to get anything checked out that they were not to sure of..if I had had it checked earlier it would have made a world of difference. Good luck
