After 8 years NED and 10 years since first Dx of Melanoma today I received a call that one of my biopsies came back as basal cell carcinoma.
      I begin topical treatment tomorrow.
Kind of at a loss of what to think.

I would think of it as an unrelated condition (the only link being a probably sensitivity to sun) and a relatively benign and easily fixed thing. Please don't be too concerned… I mean none of us likes more cutting/burning etc, but BCC is a pretty benign and indolent thing that can usually be quickly and easily treated.

If you've had one, you're more likely to have more in the future.  Sun exposure is typically the cause for BCC.  But BCC doesn't metastasize although it can destroy a lot of tissue locally.  This is a tiny bump in the road.  I've done the topical chemo on all my face and it's not a pretty site, but it works pretty well.  I don't even think twice about the other skin cancers – if it isn't melanoma, it's just something to treat and move on.

Oh I totally agree if I had to choose I’d pick BCC over Melanoma!
I just thought I was on such a roll for 8 years, but this is manageable. This is can do and I will!
Starting treatment tonight. It’s on my shoulder so lucked out.
Thank you all for your support and advice!

I had 15 basel cell surguries before my first melanoma. I still go every 60 days and get striped search for spots. Exposure to nuclear weapons is a you know what.

After melanoma, BCC is a walk in the park.  Granted it likes to show up on bad areas ex. tip of nose, but unless very invasive or extensive, not much to worry about compared to mel.  Get it treated early and as often as needed.  It can become very destructive, but usually takes time to do so.

IMHO – I will take BCC anyday compered to mel.  I also had a small BCC and a few AK's removed over the years.
