Hello everyone!
I was reading your posts the last couple of days and I felt encoured to share my melanoma experience. I was firstly diagnosed on October 2015, nevoid melanoma, Clark IV, 1.5mm, excision in toto. Sentinel node biopsy on December 2015 resulted tumor-free sentinel. I was recommended for low-dose interferon therapy for 18 months but decided myself not to have it (regretting it now very much!!) Follow ups were ok until November 2016 where a lump appeared on my left axilla, almost at the same spot as the sentinel scar. I had to change doctors since I live in Denmark now, and when contacted with the doctor in Denmark on November 2016 they advised me to wait and see since it did not look dangerous to them. On January 2017 I had a needle biopsy to test the node. Waiting for the results now… I am scared and very anxious. I have exams in 2 weeks but I am not able to focus on studing…
All the best to you all!

Hi Besjana, your English is fantastic! I'm so sorry you are going through all this worry. I sincerely hope that the biopsy comes back fine. I am no doctor, but the success rate for identifying the sentinel node is very high. It is good th initial doctors were not too concerned (tho always good to get a biopsy of any lump I feel). I wonder if it could be a small seroma (a small pocket of fluid) that has developed from having the original sentinel node biopsy. Or maybe scar tissue. My hubby has a lump under the skin near WLE but it is scar tissue so we're told. There's all sorts of lumps and bumps that occur in scars even some time after the surgery. I hope it all turns out fine. Must be v.hard to concentrate on those exams, do whatever u need to do to get by this waiting period… it's always the worst in my experience (and I'm not even the patient!) x

Hey there β‘ I was diagnosed with the exact same thing on my left forearm in July 2015. Neviod 1.5mm Clark level IV. Negative SNLB, I was not offered any treatment, just had a baseline PET scan following the negative SNLB.Hopefully your needle biopsy comes back negative.

Hi AvaL, Jacklyn, Deb and Anonymous user π Your words have been of great consolation and support for me during the period I was waiting for the results. I hope you and your loved ones are doing well and feel good! Well, my doctor said that they did not find any sign of malignancy on the fluid they got from the node. This made me feel relieved; however, I still have the node in my axilla and it looks like it might have grown a bit. I have an appointment in early March now for a general check-up. I am not sure anymore if I should keep examining this node or just wait and see. Here in Denmark I find doctors a bit laid back, you need to persuade them a lot to get further investigations.
Thank you again, I wish you the best from my the bottom of my heart β‘β‘β‘ -

Hi,
Sorry you are here and dealing with a possible recurrence.I could say try and ut it to the backof your mind , get some exercise and dealwith the bad news if and when you get it. We all know this is easier said than done. Have you got a personal / welfare tutor ? Does your exam board/uni have an adverse events type procedure ? You need to ask for advice before the exams and explain why you are having difficulty maintaining concentration and are not at your best. They always respond better if they know in advance- you may need to provide some of your medical paperwork etcI am sure they will try to find a way to deal with your situation sympathetically.
The fine needle aspiration biopsy results are usually available within the week… but they may insist on you attending clinic to obtain them. Hope its negative.. but remember treatments are much better than only a few years ago…
Best wishes
Deb

You might check over at http://www.melanomaforum.org where there are many people from Europe and other countries who could help you find a specialist. Interferon is old and not proven to lengthen your life.
