Hello,
I got a really high fever of 104.3 four days after starting Tafinlar and Mekinist. All tests for infections came back negative. I started a medrol dose pack and was told to stop the taf/mek for 48 hours. Still getting two (more mild) fevers a day. If you went on a break with these medicines because of super high fevers, how long until fevers went away?
Thanks!
Monica

My wife had the same thing when she was on Taf/Mek – high fever preceded by a nagging dry cough. A two day break from the meds would break the cycle – her fevers would stop within a day or so. After that, she'd go back on the meds with no prob…until the next time. 🙁
Good luck!

This has been my experience as well. When I get the fevers I take a 2-3 day break until the fever is completely gone and then resume. I've been on it about two months and I think I'm getting acclimated. The first few weeks I would get a high fever once a week and a mild fever just about every afternoon. My last break was 2-3 weeks ago and I haven't even had the mild fevers lately and feel so much better. I noticed that I now require tons of water and I can tell if I haven't had enough or if I over do it. So far these drugs are working really well for me, I hope it stays that way. Take care.

Hi Monica – my husband had severe fevers that required hospitalization with the Tafinlar/MEK combo and was never able to tolerate the MEK component. He has been on a reduced 3/4 dose of Tafinlar for almost 4 years. After each high fever episode, he stopped taking the drug for several days until things returned to normal and then resumed. Haven't had any issues for a very long time. Hope you're able to get past this issue.

My sister had fevers with every dose and nothing we did could change it. We could keep it lower by using tylenol ahead of dosage time but it never stopped. She also developed the rash (common) but then it turned into a grade 3 allergic reaction and the drugs were stopped completely. Even though those side effects were awful and she wasn't on any of it for longer than about 5 weeks, the combo worked like magic – from about day 3 on, we began to see sub-qs disappear. Even though you're suffering these fevers, I hope it's doing its magic for you too!!!! Best wishes!
