Hello. I am having a wide excision on August 23rd to remove a melanoma from my right lower leg. It is on the calf, sitting, actually on the skin over the Achilles tendon. I am a senior and I live alone. I haven't seen the surgeon and I am wonderng if anyone has had experience with similar surgery in this area and what the recovery was like. My melanoma is .3 Breslow level and Clark level 3. The biopsy margins wre positive so not sure just how deep it actually is. Thank-you for your help.

I had a wide local excision on my shoulder this week. Granted, I am 35 and the surgery was in a different site, but I found it pretty straightforward so far for recovery. I was up and moving around after the anesthesia wore off. I can’t do any heavy lifting or strenuous until stitches come out, but that is to be expected. My pain has been pretty minimal too, and after the pain pill they gave me at the hospital, I haven’t needed to take anything since. Best of luck to you! -

God morning,
I was just shy of 54 when I had my WLE. Mine was mid-way between my calf and ankle on the back of my left leg. The recovery was not bad at all. I had more trouble with the SLNB site, which eventually had to be drained due to a mondo seroma! But even that was just a small temporary inconvenience.
