I was diagnosed in February 2015. Stage 3b. I was NED since April 2015 and had interferon treatment for a year which was completed in June 2016. My latest CT scan showed tumor in my rt pelvic area and confirmed melanoma. They believe its lymph node related. I did have 8 nodes removed back in 2015. I see the surgeon and oncologist next week. Anyone else with recurrence like this and if so what is next? Surgery and more treatment?

Hey-I'm 3b as well and my last 3 pets have picked up a warm spot near my appendix. My dr doesn't think it is mel. At first they thought it was appendicitis but I have no symptoms. It is really small but has doubled in size. They plan to do a colonoscopy and biopsy the area. Seeing your post made me cringe. My questions to you are-did the dr know right away it was Mel by looking at pet? Did they do a colonoscopy to biopsy the area? Where was your original Mel?

I’ve had a similar situation. Stage 1B in 2009, recurred in 2016 to groin, had 10 nodes removed, recurred a few WEEKS later in pelvis so had 28 more nodes removed in January 2017. Started on immunotherapy. Headed to MD Anderson in a few days for scans. -

I was also 3b when diagnosed. Last year when my recurrence happened in a couple of lymph nodes I went on Ipi/Nivo and have done well on it. One lymph node is free of melanoma, the other has shrunk in half so treatment is working. I didn’t do surgery since I would have been left with no treatment options. So, if you have surgery to remove it then you are NED again and could try adjuvant Ipi. If you don’t do surgery then you’ll have all treatment options open to you. I’m sure your onc will go over all the options to choose from that are a good fit for you.
