Hey Warriors!!
Today was my 4th round of Pembro/PV-10 and I can report that the PV-10 appears to be doing its job well. It was concluded today that PV-10 has killed the tumor it was injected into and the tumor is now "mush" (which I think is medical jargon for necrotic). This is pretty exciting not only for me but potentially for others who might receive this intralesional later.
Injections were still given today (by the trial protocol, as long as there is something there, the injections will continue for the full 5 rounds. Only one more to go! The amount, which is determined by the size of the tumor, was much less today than in the previous 3 rounds. It still stings like a mother, but let it sting…its killing melanoma!
I will not know about the other two lesions until scans next month but I will say that PV-10 has made a believer out of me. Now I pray that Pembro is working as hard. Its time to brace for the Pembro flu as I have come to call it.
Charley Mike Warriors, Charley Mike!!!
Tex

Great news, Tex! Curious if your docs said anything about the PV-10 possibly attacking your other masses as well. I ask because John's oncologist is theorizing that his injections of SD-101 may diminish his other tumor on his left adrenal gland that cannot be directly injected. He, too, is on Keytruda as well. Hope you weather the flu symptoms as well as possible! ~ Carol

Hi Carol! Yes, they mentioned that often times PV-10 will attack "bystander tumors", although mine are pretty far apart, they said that it is possible. I am hoping that between the PV-10 and the Keytruda that the melanoma is getting the double whammy. How is John doing?

Howdy Tex!
John is hoping for the same double whammy effect that you are! Other than that, we think the SD-101 is what's kicking his booty. It's been 2 1/2 weeks since his last treatment with both drugs, and he only started feeling reasonably normal yesterday. Back to UCLA for a doubleshot on Monday. Fortunately, his treatments currently are three weeks apart, following the mounth of weekly SD-101 shots, because the effects are cumulatively worsening.
Scans on Monday, too. Hope to have some positive news. Hope you're back on your feet again!
Merry Christmas!
Carol

This is awesome news! I am inspired by how you take the pain of treatment and choose to make your focus that you are bringing the battle to melanoma and kicking the crap out of it! What a warrior! Stay tough~ I know you are winning this war!

Thank you! All of you inspire me every time I log on to this board. You are all an amazing group of Warriors and survivors! I might be biased (a little) but I think you are correct, I feel like I'm winning. I don't take this enemy lightly…it just better not take me lightly if it wants this to be a fair fight 🙂
