      Hi guys! We had my dads first surgical consult at Moffitt this morning and will be checking the the boxes to move forward with surgery in a couple weeks. I have a better sense of peace knowing we have a plan in place. One of the necessary items is a brain MRI. We have had a clear CT of the chest/neck/head and clear PET (other than known primary lesion on scalp and known neck lymph node area that we knew about already from biopsy). I did not think to ask the dr until he left the room but am just curious on how an MRI shows the brain differently than the PET and CT and if it is common to have brain spread that didn't show up on the other 2 tests but is visible on MRI.

          MRI is generally the best way to image the brain when looking for tumors.   PET sees metabolic activity, but due to high activity in the brain overall, tumors can be masked with PET that will show up on MRI.
