Hello –
I had my paratoidectomy and lymph node dissection done by an ENT, and everything went well. Good luck with everything.

I had a similar question-my initiial surgery (partial paratoidectomy) was done by ENT – who could not get clear margins due to location (adjacent to facial nerve). He referred me to a Head and Neck Oncology surgeon who decided it was too risky. My third consult was at a teaching hospital (UC-Colorado) and this was also with a Head/Neck oncology surgeon who felt the risks (likely facial nerve damage and all that entails) might be worth it to me if I didn't get positive response from the various drugs I was taking. Radiation specialists (I saw three) seemed to be in the same camp-risks might be worth it if I don't respond well to the drugs…Hope that all goes well, but please try not to be in such a rush that you don't see the very best surgeon at the very best hospital. Be willing to travel to do it. You only really get one shot at getting this surgery right.

Find a good surgical oncologist at a major cancer center. Where do you live, I have a great surgeon at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC. He completed all my surgeries including the parotidectomy and CLND. If you live near ny let me know and I will give you his name. Great surgeon and a really great and caring person.
