      Hello Warriors!

I have an idea and I’d like some feedback. I created something called the Journey Journal (you can see it on my blog) but some copies came back from the printing press with blemishes on the cover so I can’t sell them. They are still perfectly good journals so I thought I could send them out to some of you all and start a journal club. We are all ratties in the melanoma world…why not be ratties for something that could be fun, right?

If you’re interested, email me at [email protected]

      Warrior on, my friends!

Just to clarify – I’m thinking of a journal club like a book club. We talk every week or every other week about journaling – how to do it, how it helps (or doesn’t help), how to get the creative juices flowing, etc. And every week is a different topic to journal about (like what is health? What does success look like? If cancer was an animal, what would it be?) When I had cancer, journaling was my therapy, so I want to help others discover how amazing it can be. This is a totally new thing (I’ve never heard of a journal club before) but I think it could be a lot of fun!

What do you think? Is this a lame idea or something you’d like to try?

Sounds great.  But actually…there are lots of journaling clubs!  Ha!  From Bible study to scientific research!

But…some cost money and I don't know that there is one specifically on the topic of surviving melanoma!!  I would love to participate except I spend so much time researching and writing for my blog that I don't think I can play. I agree with you that running, screaming, talking to a friend, or writing can be very cathartic and help folks get through lots of things and gain perspective.  I often talk to my teens about journaling as an aide to help them get through things they are dealing with.  As not all of them are thrilled about a writing assignment (though some are) I suggest that they can write only one sentence, one word, one scribble, anything they like that helps them describe their life, their feelings, their world…and make it through.  Might be something that will work for your idea as well.

I wish you good luck and lots of participation with your project!  Would love to hear updates about it as you go along!  yours, celeste

Hi Celeste! I did see the ‘journaling club’ you listed, but it seems to be more like a paid lesson in how to journal rather than a group of people getting together to discuss journaling and different things we journaled that week. As for the scientific journal club, that’s when people get together to go over journal articles – again, a bit more like a book club. I’m hoping to make this a unique group experience around the act of journaling with a journal tailored to what we’re going through.

I designed the Journey Journal specifically as a cancer journal – its filled with inspiring quotes based on different topics that we cancer patients think about, a section for weekly updates (for treatment tracking or weekly goals) and a blank section for whimsy and daily gratitude. My local hospitals carry them in the gift shop for purchase but as I said before, some copies can’t be sold due to the covers having printer blemishes.

We are all rooting for your full and speedy recovery in your second battle! I can’t even imagine…you are such a strong woman and a blessing for all of us here!

                Health and happiness,
                Lauren

What a great idea, Mike! That is so sweet  – hoping she won't find it until you are BOTH old and grey!
