Hey guys and girls looking for some input on an issue i have.  I have a dermatologist appointment next month but my mind is racing

I am 38 yeard old going on 39.  I lived in the sun growing up playing golf as you can see by my title.  When i was 34 years old i noticed a solitary pink/shiny bump on my right  thigh.  I went to several dermatologists until one finally removed it.   When they did I was called in and told this was a very rare mole called a spitz nevus.  It was diagnosed as an atypical spitz because of my age but the margins were clear.

After googling atypical spitz i became petrified that this may have been melanoma but they missed it.   I actually contacted the dermtatopathologist and he explained to me that what he saw was a spitz nevus but because of my age it had to be categorized as atypical.  He explained to me that he sees them in adults frequently and that the science on these moles is still evolving.

Just recently i noticed a pink/shiny bump on my left calf.  It is about as round as a pencil eraser.   It actually is in a spot where i used to have a patch of eczema.

I am not noticing this bump growing.  My question is do melanoma's blanch ?  When i push on this bump it turns dark red and quickly fades back to light pink.

Also could this be related to my original spitz ?

Spitz nevi are not that rare.  No one can tell you what any lesion is by looking and certainly not over a melanoma forum.  See your derm as you have planned and have the lesion biopsied.  In the future….wear sunscreen and pants.  I wish you my best.  Celeste

I don't know anything about spitz nevus, but I can relate to your fear/questions. I went in for my skin check knowing I had something on my hand, the derm swore it was a wart. I was like, "I know for fact this is not a wart and I want it biopied. He wanted to freeze it. I refused. he begrudgingly did a shave biopsy, which I also didn't want but chose the lesser of two evils at this point. Result came back atypical seborrheic keratosis. So not cancer, not yet anyways. But most definitely not a wart. So I know have another spot on my scalp that is suddenly changing very quickly. I've had it for a year or two, but now it's suddenly growing vertically and is hard. Looks like a flesh colored seborrheic keratosis, but at this point anything that is changing I want cut out. So made an appointment with a new derm on 05/02 and will have her biopsy it. And I will keep changing derms until I find one that is willing to not only use their education and experience but also understand that I know my body too. And it's so much easier to just biopsy than to risk it.

If you are having anxiety, call and get in sooner. Tell them your history. That's the best and most proactive thing you can do. I wish I could assure it's nothing, but the only definitive way to do that is to go in sadly. So please go and then update us!

            Hugs and understanding to you!

I am so glad I stumbled across this today. I had a .6mm atypical spitzoid removed in August 2018. Because of my age (44) the doctor said mine was most definitely melanoma, and they treated it as such. TODAY, I notice a similar pink/brown/white bump about 4 inches from the original site. I am of course panicked, waiting to get in to see my doctor.

It sounds like your original doctor was pretty confident that it was not a melanoma so take some comfort in that. Just have it checked to be safe and for peace of mind.

One more thing: Listen to your gut and be as pushy as you need to be to get clarity and answers. When I went in the first time I was told to watch it and see how it evolves. I said no thanks, remove it. Thank goodness I did, because it was melanoma. You must advocate for yourself, as exhausting as that is.  All the best and keep us posted!
