I'm only a few weeks into my melanoma diagnosis, and I've seen a few articles around the web about going gluten free and it helping.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  What are some good gluten free recipes?

On a side note, I've lost 11 pounds in the last few weeks by cutting out gluten, so at least there's that.

Would you please clarify by descrbing ‘Help with what?’ Treatment side effects? I don’t think there are any studies linking gluten to effectiveness of treatment or melanoma progression

I’ve been gluten free for nearly 20 years and am Stage 3B diagnosed in February 2019.  I cut gluten back when people said ‘What is gluten?’  It helped with servere reflex and bloating that aggravate.d hiatal hernia.

That being said I’ve had 2 immunotherapy treatments without diarrhea.  Doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future.

We are in the midst of a lot of discoveries concerning microbiome and thus, diet. Dr Jennifer Wargo at MD Anderson in Texas is leading the way with this kind of research and the initial mouse experiment results seem to favour a high diversity and some special kind of bacteria in the gut. In short, high fiber diet seems to be the buzz word now.

Just a comment here that the latest research seems to point to soluble fiber as being beneficial. You don't want too much insoluble fiber as that just makes things pass quickly through your gut. You should be good with a varied plant-based diet, but don't just run out and stock up on fiber pills.

Here is an interesting read on current findings from the University of chicago who are doing research like Jenn Wargo from Md Anderson on the gut microbiome. If you go down about half way in the document to the tables and figure section then in the conclusion section you will see that the research in what is going on in the gut and it's effect on immunotherapy is in the very early days. https://jitc.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40425-019-0574-4
