So sorry to hear about your friend, but glad they have someone advocating for them which is you. You are about equal distant between Nashville and Atlanta (both about 2 hours away). I would go to either Vanderbilt in Nashville or Emory University in Atlanta. I know it is a drive but these centers will have melanoma specialists that have seen many many many patients and this will give your friend all the best and newest possible options including information about clinical trials. You can call and schedule an appointment with a doctor in their melanoma clinics.. At this point just keep all the information in an organized way so you can bring it to whoever you decide to see. But as this board will tell you, seeing a top melanoma specialist is the first step towards starting to deal with this disease.

This board will help you through the process. Some people on this board may have specific doctors at both Vanderbilt and Emory that they will recommend. But starting there would be a great step. Hugs

If your friend’s case is straight forward and they have not failed current recommended treatments for Stage IV melanoma, they can actually get a good start at Tennessee Oncology who have their offices at Memorial in Chattanooga. This primer may help you better help your friend in getting a grip on current recommended therapy, if you are not already familiar: https://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2017/08/melanoma-intel-primer-for-current.html

At this point in FDA approved options in melanoma, if your friend has not already been treated they are probably looking at either targeted or immunotherapy. The docs at TN oncology can provide that. However, if they have already tried those things and are in needed of further care I agree that Vanderbilt or Sarah Cannon (that’s who TN Oncology is associated with) in Nashville or Emory in Atlanta would be good next steps. I wish you and your friend my best. Celeste

We live in Murfreesboro TN and are currently seeing Dr. Meredith McKean at TN Oncology in Nashville. She just came here from MD Anderson. She has been so helpful and proactive in her treatment. Prayers for your friend ‘s healing.
