Hello everyone,I got a diagnosis in February, 0,3mm, Stage 1a, no ulceration, <1 mitose/qmm on my left lower leg. I hade a wide excision immediately afterwards. I was very lucky to have caught it so early. My heart goes out to all the people on this board.
A sort of round eczema, pale red and a bit scabby developed around the scar as it was healing. I didn't give it much thought at all. It was itchy for a while. At my last checkup the doctor gave me a steroid cream but it didn't react to it much, although it seemed to get paler. Right now it seems to be going away and is getting paler. He says he cannot make a connection to the melanoma and that it could be from the two surgeries, that the skin might just adjusting to the stretch. He said we should just wait until the next appointment and wait as it will be 6-7 months when we meet next and that is a good time to look at the scar, which will only change slightly afterwards. I am a lot less worried now as my skin just seems to be healing now, but I wanted to ask if anyone else had this while their scar healed?
Also, do you recommend seeing a melanoma specialist, even at my stage? I am being treated in Germany and the only doctor I found who is specialized in this is not covered by my insurance, he has a private practice. I got the surgery done by my dermatologist who also does my skin check-ups now.
Needless to say it's been quite a few months as I anyway struggle with being anxious. This diagnosis really takes a whole new level of trusting things will be okay while knowing that there is no certainty.
Best wishes to all of you,
mionima

Hi mionima!I was diagnosed in March, had the WLE in April. With regard to the red, scabby, eczema like patch you’re experiencing, my question for you is, is this anywhere near where you might have had any kind of bandage? I believe I’ve had the same symptoms and it always occurred where I had different types of bandages throughout the process. My husband and I are thinking it was a skin reaction to the sticky part of the bandage or the different tapes that were used. Especially since you say it now seems to be going away – so does mine, as my incision is healed for the most part and I’m not wearing any type of bandage, I would assume you aren’t either, since you had everything done earlier in the year.
Praying you get some answers!
Regina
