I have a mole that was biopsied that they want to remove completely now that they have seen that the margins weren’t clean on the pathology report. I’m scheduled for a wide excision biopsy next week. The doctor made it seem like I needed to be off my foot for possibly 1-2 weeks after the procedure. What is everyone’s experience with recovery from something like this? I realize everyone heals differently but I had no problems from the initial biopsy with pain/discomfort/swelling. I work in healthcare and I know most surgeons downplay the recovery time so hearing 1-2 weeks has me concerned. Thanks in advance!

I have had multiple biopsies and procedures on my foot. The issue is that there is not much excess skin on the foot, so upon removing a portion of skin…it is very difficult to close the wound. Then you compound the issue by walking on the wound, which can put tremendous forces and pressures on the stitches and the skin that has been stretched to close the excised tissue. If you were able to power through the first biopsy without any problem, you might consider trying to take more time for (non-load-bearing) recuperation this time around. It isn’t so much of a pain issue as it is about success of outcome vs complications.

          Best of luck,

Hi blhaslett, sorry so late to your post! Biopsies tend to be a PAIN in the gluts (ass) as youve learned no matter where its done at, its 50/50 how it will heal, feel and seal! Yours i can imagine would be difficult cuz its your foot, a weight bearing limb for one, plus someone pointed out a great issue of “lack” of skin to mend properly…Read my lastest post, i to had a needle bio to my side (under left ribs) to my protruding tumor and its just now starting to heal! Constant leaking of inflammation cell juice and light blood, pain in the ass! Had that done Thursday morning, today is Sunday, finally its closed for the most part….hope you heal up soon!
