This clinic is run by Keith Block who wrote "Life Over Cancer".

Has anyone heard about this clinic?  I read the book but most info seems to be more for other forms of cancer.  It talks a lot about Body and mind thearpy along with a strict diet during Chemo/immune therapy and after.

I am trying to get my HMO to pay for a visit to them, and wonder if it would be worth it. They are in Northern Illinois.

I bought several of the books recomended in my earlier post.  Thanks for the suggestions

I have been sad about the people who have recently died of our disease, and I pray for all of us.

          Their website is   http://www.blockmd.com/

I think integrative is the way to go.  For any cancer.  I own the book, but I don't know about the center.  My impression is, that it is similar in nature to Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

I'd be interested to read anyone's personal experience.

I live in Northern Illinois and have been going to the clinic for about 3 months. They have a great program regarding diet and supplements which I follow ( although I do not buy their "brand" of supplements). They do pretty extensive blood tests then suggest the correct dosages of vitamins, etc. They also offer high-dose vitamin C infusions which I have taken twice a week since June, but stopped last week because I am going on to Yervoy this Wednesday.( I don't want to multiply the potential gastro side effects) Not so sure they see a lot of melanoma there as one of the oncologists I spoke to was not that well versed with Yervoy. As someone else has mentioned, they do offer mind-body sessions which I have not taken advantage of because I do my own thing in that regard…..

I am using a pretty broad range of angles on my melanona(stage IV with 1 brain met) right now. I use the diet and supplements from the Block Center. I meet with a buddhist monk once a week for the mind-body work. I also spent two months in India this past winter doing Ayurvedic Pancha Karma treatments and continue to take the herbs prescribed. On top of all that I am seeing Dr. Jon Richards, out of Lutheran General , as he ran the Yervoy trials in my area and will be starting Yervoy this week.

So….I think that the Block Center has something to offer, but I am not putting all of my eggs in that one basket…..

I have researched the Block Institute to some degree.  I am glad you have had a positive experience.  What supplements and diet did they recommend?

The diet is mostly vegan with some cold water fish and a few eggs allowed. The focus is on low-inflammatory and low glycemic impact foods. I seem to take a lot of supplements, but the ones I think help the most are Omega 3 fish oils, curcummin, green tea extract, red wine extract, vitamin D, a mushroom complex, and melatonin. The nice thing is that they have nutrionists on-staff that help figure out  what is best for the individual. After being in India for a couple of months I was vegitarian anyway, so the diet was not that big of a stretch.

Thank you so much for the information.  I practice a mostly vegetarian diet and take most of those supplements.  I will still keep them in mind for a consult.
