I'm wondering if anyone else has both Melanoma and Crohn's Disease? I was diagnosed stage1 MM in 2000, NED until 2/12 when a biopsy showed MM insitu again on my abdomen.  In 2004 I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. It has been quite challenging treating an autoimmune disorder with a cancer history.

It has been quite challenging treating an autoimmune disorder with a cancer history. I need my immune system in terms of keeping MM at bay, but it is that same immune system that is overactive in my intestines causing my body to attack itself.  I am not a good candidate for ant-TNF therapies and the immunomodulators also carry a cancer risk.  I am surely not the only one to be diagnosed with both diseases and I'm really searching for anyone with some advice. My doctors are at a loss, despite being treated in a University setting.

My friend is dealing with the same issue… she is not on MPIP but I'm sure she would love to have someone else to talk to about this.  I will tell her tonight.

I have Crohn's as well and am going through the staging process right now.  The basics of my melanoma so far are:

1.5mm thick in my left pectoral muscle; 1 positive lymph node out of 5 when they did the SLNB with deposits of .27mm and .3 mm (micrometastasis.)  I just ogt the results of the SLNB on Tuesday May 1st.

I am awaiting results of all the scans that I had on May 4th; two have come back so far – the abdominal CT scan and the brain MRI were both clean.  I'm awaiting the PET and the thoracic CT scan (and praying like crazy for clean scans there.)

I've had Crohn's for many years – going on 15 now.  About 10 years ago, I had the first of several surgeries that ultimately led to an ileostomy.  I do still have a rectal stump.  I've been taking Humira since 2006 and it has mostly kept my Crohn's at bay, although I do have some small bowel inflammation (per the abdominal CT).

What are your expeirences with treating Crohn's and Melanoma?

Also, I'm scheduled for lymph node dissection on May 16th.

I too was diagnosed with Melanoma in 2010 and Crohn's back in 2007 or so.  I am on Humira, however since they have found sevearl other pre-melanoma spots, my doctor now wants me off Humira.

Anyone have any thoughts/experiences with this?

                        Thanks!
