       A week and a half ago my dad went in to get his left lymphnodes removed due to an earlier surgery returning positive for tumors.  The results are back and 2 additional nodes came back positive? Does it mean the cancer has spread to other areas? What happens next? His doctor had initially said he was stage 3a.  

      Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

          Most likely he will stage 3b now. Interferon will be an option to discuss. You (he) may wish to go to a melanoma center if you are not already being seen by one.

                 You/he need to find out how large the tumors were in the 2 lymph nodes.  Were they small (micro-metastasis) or measurable.  That will give you a clue.  Then you dad will (or should have) have full body scans to see if there was any further spread.  There is never any guarantee on way or another.  Hopefully the lymph nodes did their jobs and contained the cancer cells.
