Hi, I am just posting here because I feel like I need someone who knows something to give me an answer..good or bad. My question is: have you ever known an itchy mole to NOT be cancer? I visited the dermatologist over last winter to have a mole checked. He assured me it was a friendly mole. Not a month later it started itching. I recently called back and they say they need to see me ASAP. That itchiness doesn't usually occur with a mole they aren't worried about. Does anyone have experience? I have to wait two weeks now and I'm scared! I have four little ones and all I keep thinking is they are going to grow up without a mom. Sorry if it seems dramatic, I'm just a worst case scenario kind of person.

      Thank you!

I had a mole that was itchy, and although the dermatologist didn't think it was concerning he took it off just to be safe.  It was completely benign.  smiley

Hi Robins269, I have had two moles the same as you describe and my Derms has looked closely at them and seen nothing to be concerned with. I am stage 4 for the last 15 months and see the derm regularly. I think if you follow the Melanoma pictures on the gov't web sites post would be your best guide. Usually they are very obvious in the shape and colouring. Best of luck and try not to worry!!! Ed

Like you I had a mole that the dermatologist didn't think was an issue, four months later it itched, so a month later I was in for an apt. to have it looked at and a punch biopsy was done mine was melanoma, but isn't necessarily the case. The itch is do the bodies response to local changes in the skin, like when a mosquito bites. In my case it was likely due to my immune systems T-cells, in your case you'll have to wait but while you are waiting you remember everyday is precious, and the odds on are your side. Do post when you get the results. Best wishes.
