My original path report listed Mitotic rate of invasive component : 17 per square mm. My oncologist has open notes. Every visit she list all my findings Clark level etc but every time she write 70 mitosis per mm2. What or is there a difference? Thank you , hope this make sense.

Interesting since square mm = mm2 the only question is why the pathology report says 17 and your oncologist writes 70. I would ask her. From my reading there is no prognostic difference once you get over 6 per mm2. I prefer measures that are mitosis cells per cell measures in mm2 it is a more curate measure.
hope this helps

Does mitotic rate impact how fast melanoma will return? I was diagnosed as 3A in January 2013, but told that I was more like a 3B because of my very high rate of mitosis. Does that make it more likely that my melanoma will recur (if it does) sooner rather than later?
