Any way to stop fevers while on Dabra?

My husband took Dabrafanib and Mekinist for 6 weeks with no problem and excellent results. Then he developed fevers. They took him off the Mekinist as a result.  They took him off of Dabrafanib after he developed eye inflammation.  Now over two months later, he was instructed to try the Dabrafanib again and with in 24 hours he is starting to get fevers again.  He is not to take prednisone, so any other way to stop fevers? Otherwise, he will havae to stop dabra probably.

Depends on the degree of fever I think. When I was on that combo I would have a 103 and not even realize it. What worked for me though was the common stuff. Just over the counter Tylenol, crushed ice to suck on, cold wash cloth on the head, couple blankets. Once though mom did some kind of cold alcohol rub down with a wash cloth but it was so cold I couldn't stand it so we didn't do it anymore.

They told me fevers were very common on the combo and only call them if it got over 103 and we couldn't get it down. Also they said not to go to emergency room for it but call them. Also fevers on the combo are not a sign that the medicine is working good.

wow, amazing that you didn't even realize you had a fever at 103. my husband gets the chills at only 99 degrees. they don't let him keep taking it when he gets fevers because his fevers escelate. thanks for the info.

The third article down in this post addresses treating fevers with BRAF/MEK specifically.  Unfortunately, the recommendation is for corticosteriods…which often stop the fever and even…in this study, allowed patients to resume the meds and the fever did not recur.  Why has your husband been told he cannot take prednisone?  I realize this may not help you if he cannot take them…but perhaps it will give you some info….

Thanks for the info.  When my husband first took dabrafenib with Mekinist, he had 6 weeks with no side effects. then the fevers started and he spent three days in the hospital. when he got out, they had him start dabra without mekinist and with prednisone. this worked for a couple weeks. then he got fevers again. We upped the prednisone a little, but the fevers kept coming back.  Then he got eye inflammation and had to stop dabra for at least six weeks. the Dabra had gotten rid of the melinoma tumor to the point that his next scans were ned.  However, He is now on just started ipi and in the meantime a small area of supposed "scar tissue" has grown and they assume it is probably melanoma again. They had him try dabra again but within 36 hrs he was getting chills and fevers again and eye inflammation. They dont want prednisone when he is on ipi
