I posted the other day about waiting for biopsy results. I just called my doctor because it’s been a few days after they said the results should be back. I was told the pathologist sent the biopsy to U of M. I asked if this was pretty normal and they said it is not typical, but they want a second opinion. So, my mind is going to the worst place possible. Obviously something is wrong, right? Is a second opinion something to be concerned about? I know you all are going through the worst hell possible and I don’t mean any disrespect by expressing my anxiety.

No it doesn't mean something is obviously wrong. I had a biopsy this past summer sent off for a second opinion as well, and in my case it came back as a spitz nevus which was totally excised requiring no further margins. So it saved me from any more cutting. Spitz nevus can resemble melanoma, and although the original dermapathologist thought it was a spitz, he sent it out for a second opinion just to be sure. Actually, I would take some solace in the fact they are getting a second opinion. I get cut a lot, and anything that can slow that down a bit I'm all for. Everyone understands the anxiety of waiting for results around here, so I hope this helps.
Bob (11 primaries and holding!)…. somewhere around 50-60 biopsies!
