Brain Day

Forums General Melanoma Community Brain Day

  • Post

    Hi All,

I have my routine brain MRI scheduled for Monday.  I've started calling it "Brain Day".  I schedule my neuro appointments after the scan and take the day out of work.  I try not to stress and bring a good book and just hang out on Fenwood and Francis streets and then bounce over to good old Brookline Ave.  My boss has started rejecting my vacation days for Brain Day and just let's me take the day.

For those of you in the midst of the darkness remember there is light.  Things get better.  You heal.  You persevere.  You survive.  Chin up if you can.  Use humor.  Draw strength from others.

    Good wishes to you,

    Jennifer

I think she may saying that her boss just lets her have the day off without having to use vacation.  At least I hope that's what she is saying….

No!  She lets me not work but still get paid without burning a vacation day.  She is super awesome.

Hi Jennifer, glad to read your spirits are good. I was also at 450 Brookline today, maybe we saw each other. No scans for me today. It was infusion (or as my wife likes to call it, booster juice) day.

The folks at DFCI are so cool. Just about every time I told someone my date of birth (which was about a dozen), they wished me an early happy birthday (my birthday’s tomorrow) and after my infusion they brought me a slice of cake and sang Happy Birthday. Very sweet.

              Keep fighting and smiling,

              -Rich

Hi Rich – Booster juice!  Love that.  Your wife is clearly very cool.  I hope DFCI is treating you well.  They've saved me a couple of times so I owe them.  Who do you have for an infusion nurse?  I see Maura and Mary but sometimes I cheat and have Christine or Lina.  They are all amazing.  Including Dan and Jerry.  Have you seen the nurse who dresses up like a clown and tells jokes?  I'm a bit introverted so I usually steer clear of her but my husband thinks she is the bees knees.

Hi, Jen, sorry for the late reply. I've had two infusions so far with two different nurses, DeeDee and the Megan. My next infusion is scheduled with a different nurse, although that could change on infusion day. All the infusion nurses seem to be especially nice, both from what I've seen and what I've experienced. So far, I'm mostly happy with DFCI. There was a scheduling snafu with my SRS treatment but they were apologetic about it. DFCI itself has been great, but when I have to get stuff done at one of Brigham & Women's various buildings, that can make for a long day. We're slowly learning our way around the "campus."

I'll keep my eye out for that clown nurse!

I like your style, Jen! I try to do the same on big appointment days, bring a good book, plan something small but indulgent and appreciate the extra day off with my husband. I had my Brain day last Thursday and got the results on Tuesday…six months brain tumor free! I’ll be hoping for the same for you.

Sending you love and light on Monday and always!

Hi Jen – my husband has his quarterly MRI scheduled soon and we take the same approach.  It almost seems like "old home" day – I look forward to seeing the radiology team and catching up on what's been going on over the past few months.  Don't ask me how, but after 6 years, we've become rather nonchalant about the scans – not that they're always issue free, rather that we trust his neuro/radiologist to have a plan if something does pop up.  Hoping you have an uneventful, issue free day! Take Care.

I will be sending positive vibes and love your way! I also want to thank you for helping ease my anxiety about my husband's diagnosis. I appreciate you and all the others on this forum who give comfort and knowledge. I hope you enjoy the weekend.

                        Hi Jennifer,

I read your post just after an early morning CT scan. I too like to hang around downtown after or before a scan. Today I had a much needed coffee, then went to do some shopping which cost me waaaaay too much. Next scan I guess I’ll have to head home right after… 😉

All the best for your brain day!

Jennifer, may you and your brain and your good book have a terrific *clear* day on Monday. I always look forward to reading your posts, and your PhD in Bright Outlook is one I try to borrow from, so thank you. I’m the spouse, not the patient, but I’m more emotionally affected by this stuff than he is by far.

Thanks to you all.  I started to reply individually to you but got a bit overwhelmed.  So one big thank you to everyone.  You've all said wonderful and encouraging things and I thank you.  Be well my cyber friends and I'll let you know how brain day goes.

                          Good wishes to you all,

                          Jennifer
