      My biopsy was sent to the pathologist…. and 9 days later i received word that the pathologist was sending my case out to a different pathology center for consultation…

       

      Does anyone know why they would do this??

          The main reason is usually that there is uncertainty about what they are seeing.  So they will send it to a different lab for a second set of eyes and often for specific stains, etc., to test the biopsy specimen that might be available at that lab which are not available at the original one.  This does not necessarily mean melanoma.  It can mean a lesion that is just atypical in some other way that is hard to define, so no way to tell until they call you with the results.
