I recently had a 0.67 cm moll removed from my left torso the pathology report came back as follows: Consistent with compound nevi with severe atypia II.
Two mitotic figures can be observed at both levels of the lesion. The lesion extends broadly to the base margin. A nevoid melanoma cannot be excluded. Wide re-excision is recommended. Per my dermatologist he is telling me that he thinks this may be an in situ or stage 1 melanoma. What are the forums thoughts?

My own motto is, "When in doubt, cut", particularly when faced with mitosis and atypia.

Given the location and lack of cosmetic impact, remove it and be diligent in your follow up, both wth your surgeon and dermatologist.

The procedure itself can be done under local anesthetic (though in an operating room) and the incision will be healed within two weeks.

Discomfort should be minimal given the location and no painkillers required.

          Hope this is helpful.

              Jamie,

Thanks for your support! I am extremely concerned as my dermatologist has been rather tight lipped regarding this whole process. I had the WLE completed last week, and I am waiting for pathology. Interestingly, I also developed vitiligo over a year ago in multiple locations. What concerns me is lack of lesion depth, and per the initial path report that it was not fully resected.

IMO see a different Dr if you have concerns. I always opt to cut a larger area out just to be sure.
