Constant Ear Ringing – Side effect of Interferon?

Prior to interferon induction I did not have any ringing in my ears. Since the induction and 1 month of low dose treatment in the fall of 2010 the ringing has not stopped. I stopped the low dose part of the treatment due to retina damage. Curious if others have had this side effect and if so, did it ever go away? Very distracting……Is there anything to do about it other than just suck it up and live with it?

I was wondering how you were doing Alan.  I hope all is well!

I did not do interferon or IPI, but I did immunotherapy…IL2.  I got tinnitus overnight about 5mos. after finishing treatment.  The office (we have the same Dr's.) sent me to an ENT and after Mri, etc., it was determined a side affect from treatment.  Annoying but I have gotten used to it 95% of the time.  I have read a few times others have gotten this also.  Not sure if it lasts forever, but my guess is..it can.

Off topic sorta, but shortly after the ear ringing my hands started feeling tingly.  Fast forward, I have neuropothy in both hands and feet.  Just yesterday finished seeing a Neurologist (per office suggestion) and again 2 more MRI's, etc. it appears to be from treatment.  Dr's have said that the trend has been the more adverse affects from treatment the better patient's seem to do.  (still responding and no treatment since June.)

I think these are auto immune related.  I think.

                Karin,

I hope you are doing well. I updated my profile with the latest details but in a nutshell….no evidence of disease since the one brain met. I was only able to handle two infusions of the yervoy due to colitis,  but two scans since the Yervoy have shown no disease and that the brain met (now assumed dead due to Gamma Knife) is shrinking!

No further treatments planned but will be spending the month of July in India with my Ayurvedic doctor for an immune boost.

Read StanN's profile.  He has permanent hearing loss from Interferon, I believe.  But read his profile to check for sure.
