      Went to see my dermatologist last friday regarding a suspicious mole on sole of my left foot that has been changing shape. She suspects it is early stage acral melanoma. I have a biopsy scheduled for September 6th, does anyone know of a fantastic MELANOMA specialist in the Washignton DC area, if this is melanoma i want to go to a specialist instead of a dermatologist. Thanks!

          I was referred to Dr Thomas Stahl at 202 – 877-8484 [email protected] by my local surgeon to see  if he thought a WLE should be done to get normal margins.   He agreed.  i had no problems with him.  When I learned that my groin lymph node were in extremely bad shape, I took another local surgeons option to go to UVA, Dr Slingluff and Dr Weiss for the additional work. My travel time in traffic is less to UVA than DC.  i hose DR Slingluff for new surgery's.  He is great.  I did not see enough of Dr Stahl to have any negative impression if one wants to stay within DC.  Johns Hopkins would also be another well known and respected Melanoma site near D.C.  i have a friend that sees  Dr. Sharfman at Johns Hopkiins.  

            Good luck.  Let us know what happens.

                Thanks alot. Will check with Johns Hopkins. Also had a recommendation for Dr. Marisa Braun and/or Georgetown Lombardi cancer center. Have  you heard anything about either? Thanks again.

                        Suspect you have figured out which county I live in!  Near Bealeton)   I know sevral other in the couty and one up at Gainesville. I'm about to think we need to start a  local melanoma support group.

                            Yes I did figure that out. I am open to any plans for a support group or even just a casual get together. I don't post much but read often. I am Stage 3b and get scans every 3 mos. I also have Lupus which will limit my options for treatment when and if I progress. Email me at [email protected].
