Hi, my family member had melanoma on his face 15 years ago probably stage 1. He had it removed and has been ok up until now. It has returned. He will have a Petscan and MRI on Friday and probably surgery shortly after. It is stage 3 now. Who are the best doctors in the St. Louis area or should we be traveling to Chicago? Gerald Linnette at the Siteman Cancer Center. No need to go to Chicago.

Probably stage I? Does he know what his pathology actually was?

He knows all that. I was a kid when he was diagnosed the first time. I’m not positive of what stage he had. They removed it without major surgery. It’s back now. It’s a stage 3 right now. Possibly more. He will have more tests-a petscan, cscan, MRI in two days. We will know more then. -

I’ll second Dr. Linnette at Siteman. My husband is stage 4 and Dr. Linnete (plus a neurosurgeon and radiation oncologist) saved his life. You not only get the expertise of a melanoma specialist, you also get incredible support from the doctors at Barnes Jewish if he needs any surgery. -

Thank you! I told my dad. He is currently seeing someone else. It was a referral from his dermatologist. He goes back in 2 days. We will know more then. I’m hoping he will go to Dr. Linnette after hearing about him and doing some research. I appreciate you taking the time to answer me. -

I would strongly encourage you to go to the Siteman Cancer at Washington University in St Louis….. Siteman Center is THE melanoma cancer center of excellence in the Missouri / Iowa / Arkansas and Kentucky regions …. They are one of only 40 or so NCI desigated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country and they have a Melanoma specialist clinic as well ….
I am Stage IIA and was treated there …. Dr. Jeffrey Moley is the resident melanoma surgical oncologist on staff and is in a Senior medical management position within Siteman Center as well …. He is a gifted surgeon and an all around good guy ….. They also use the inter-disciplinary approach …. If a met on his face needs to be excised, Moley will have a head and neck surgeon and a plastic surgeon on his team from Day 1….. I credit him with saving my life and giving me the 4 years + NED life extension I've had thus far….
Siteman Center is also in on all of the cutting edge trials for Melanoma…. vaccines, T-Cell, et al …. Dr. Linnette — with whom I've had a consult in case I have a metastatic recurrence — is a very good oncologist and a straight shooter …… He is also networked in with all of the other leading melanoma oncologists in the country …..
If someone has metastatic melanoma and lives in thje St Louis region, the Siteman Cancer Center is the place to go ….. they have seen alot of melanoma and they know what they're doing…

My dad got in to see Dr. Linette and really liked him. He will be going with him. Dr. Linnette took a lot of time to explain everything to him. He was not rushed at all. He was incredibly helpful. Thanks for your responses. I hope everyone has a happy holiday. -
