I am 41,fair have had many sunburns over the years and my grandmother also was ex's at some point in her life. I know I'm probably over reacting but I saw a friend of mine that is a nurse at a Dermatologist office and after talking awhile she asked me if I had what I think is an age spot on my face checked. When I told her no it an age spot she said she would call me later with an appt. I have had this mark for about a year but recently the top part has gotten darker. Is it something to get checked I have no insurance and I just don't want to waste money on an age spot

Are you for real asking that question on a forum like this when people are struggling with end stage melanoma. Of course you should get it checked out if you are concerned whether you have insurance or not. No one will tell you not to on a forum like this.

Gosh that's harsh… but it's exactly how I think sometimes, too. Anonymous OP, melanoma is like this: you get it early, or it can kill you. So you need make a rational decision. A medical professional has noticed something, and you yourself have noticed it changing (which is a real warning sign for melanoma). You need to decide whether to watch and wait (which is potentially a fatal decision ) or bite the bullet, part wtih a few dollars and get either peace of mind or a very early melanoma diagnosis (which is infinitely better than a later-stage diagnosis). Melanoma is not a slow-growing kind cancer that will allow you time to put your head in the sand. It can be super aggressive, super quickly, thus the importance of an early diagnosis. Good luck and i hope it goes well.

I waited to have a mole removed because I didn't want to pay to have it done… turns out it was melanoma.. and by the time I did have it removed it had spread internally.
It is more likely that it's nothing, like an age spot or some other benign skin spot, but any skin lesion that starts to change in color or size or other ways, should get checked out by a dermatologist.
