The IPI vs. Interferon trial is probably not even 2 years old yet but I'm curious if anyone in the trial or otherwise has received any indication as to the results of the IPI arm.  There's not much out there for the NEDers so it would sure be nice if IPI is showing some promise in the adjuvant arena.

I'm in the trial, I just finished my 4th dose about 10 days ago, so I'm onto the maintenance phase now. I don't know if there are any actual numbers, but my doctor said ipi is showing more response. I do know that the high dosage has more of a response than low dosage, but more side effects. My doctor had 1 person on high dose and had to take him off due to complications, and when I went in for #3, I had to sign a new informed consent because 4 people in the trial on high dose have passed away. Of the 4, only 2 seem actually related to the drugs, and it was from complications from surgery related to side effects. One was suicide, and ipi has not been linked to depression (patient had previous history of depression), and another was a blood clot, which has also not been linked to ipi. The other 2 were bowel complications which are related to ipi.

I'm on the low dose ipi and extremely thankful! So far, I've had about zero side effects. Maybe a little fatigue, but it's hard to blame that specifically on the ipi. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but that's about all the info I've gotten during the trial. I think until it's over, and probably for years after that, the numbers won't be very conclusive. People ask me a lot, "So are you all fixed now?" and I say that I am right now, but it's a watch and wait game.

Thanks for the info.  I was at Duke today and asked the same question and they didn't have any info.  Dr. Salama told me that it would be a while before any "official" stats are given.  I don't remember the exact numbers but she said they are striving for about 1500ish patients and only have about 700 right now.  She did say that sometimes they'll release early results if a drug is showing extremely positive results.

I hope the rumor that the IPI arm seems to be doing better is true.  That would be great.
