My husband has metastisized melanoma.  He has just finished his first 4 IPPY treatments.  We go this week for CT scan and brain MRI to see if there are any changes.

His oncologist said something about another round of IPPY in 3 months, but I cannot remember if he said that could be done if the IPPY did work or did not work.

Anybody know anything about additional IPPY treatments?

I am in a clinical trial for ipi, (I'm "only" stage IIIC) but my understanding is that you can absolutely do multiple rounds!  I believe that each cycle is 4 treatments every 3 weeks, so 12 infusions total.  If that's wrong, someone please correct me!

I did the yervoy treatment two separate times along with SRS radiation a year and one half apart. I only did the four infusions each time and wrapped it up there as there was no evidence of disease left to measure after each combo treatments. I was under the impression that if your disease is detectable and either stable or responding that one can get the additional rounds that you mention. Your oncologist will be your best answer person however from what I have read I think it should  be viewed as a good thing that you are being offered this additional treatment. Congratulations and good luck!

Thanks for the information.  We head back to MDA tomorrow for CT scan to see if there have been any changes.  Keep us in your prayers.

Ipi can also be reintroduced later on in patients who have shown  a positive response.   I believe there are many examples  demonstrating a good response can be reinforced with a second round, if the immune system begins to flag… So the benefit of being an Ipi responder can extend well beyond the initial treatment?

Check the protocol document your husband signed before he started the trial.  It describes the treatment in detail. The maintenence treatment is 4 infusions each 12 weeks apart.  I believe the first starts 12 weeks after the 4th infusion of the first set. Contact the oncology group conducting the trial. Keeps the lines of communication open.  I had an irAE after my second infusion. The oncologist stopped the ipi treatments but I'm still in the trial.  Stay with it.  Good luck.

Thank you for this information. I am stage 4 and just had my 3rd of 4 Ipi treatments. So far I have a rash and mild digestive issues. Since I have sensitive skin my onc anticipates increased skin issues starting in a week or so. I will take some allegra daily to address those problems .

My orginal melanoma was  found 2 years ago on my  toe and removed in April  2012. I was Ned till a routine PET scan in Feb showed two small  lesions in my bones. One on the scalp and one on the rib. Because the mets are 1) in my bone, not good…. and are very small, good …. I am not eligible for clinical trial. Had been hoping to do the combo trial with ipi and PD-1. I have been watching for PD-1 to be approved and had hoped to take it following ipi. Now if that is approved and i am eligible to repeat ipi do you think the combo could work?
