Hubby is stage 4, brain, lung, liver and bones. He is coughing ALL the time. He hasn't slept more than 3 hours a day for the past 6 days. He's exhausted and it's so hard watching him dealing with this. Dr says his lungs are clear, no fluid. We have tried cough drops, warm tea with honey, straight honey, and a humidifier. He hasn't started treatment yet. Plans are to start Teflinar and Mekinist next week if all paperwork goes through.
Any suggestions to help with the constant coughing would be greatly appreciated! His body can't fight if he's always exhausted from no sleep because of the cough!!

I was coughing throughout the day after my lung surgery for a full year. When I experienced a recurrence (3 new lung mets) I changed my diet and the coughing stopped. I'm guessing the surgery started my coughing fits and a food allergy kept it from getting better. In my case I cut out grains, sugar and pretty much all processed foods (I only ate foods cooked from scratch). I have no idea if this is your husband's issue. I still have lung mets but I don't cough anymore.
I hope he finds some relief soon.
Best of luck,
Maggie

Thank you so much for your reply! My husbands lung met is inoperable but I will see if eating healthier helps. His stomach has been so upset lately that he isn't eating much. The only thing I got him to eat yesterday was a salad and some strawberry shortcake.

You might want to ask your doctor about Palladium seeding for the inoperable lung tumor. It is not a cure but rather an individual way to kill a particular tumor with radiation. Each "seed" of Palladium has the potential to kill cells within 1 cm of it. So if they place it in the center of a tumor, in theory it would kill a tumor of 2 cm. I don't know if they would use more seeds for a larger tumor or not. But it is one way to address an inoperable tumor in the lung. There are a pair of doctors that perform this procedure in Orange County, CA.

Thank you, I will definitely ask if it is an option. It seems like everyday new things are arising. Yesterday he threw up twice and it was black. Today he ate 2 full meals and only had an upset stomach at dinner. Today we did notice that his left eye is droopy. I just don't know what to think or do. Should we be calling the dr about these things?

Hi so sorry to hear this. Stay strong and try to get onto keytruda for him or even better the ipi/nivolumab combination. I had a very large lung tumour 7.9 cm ( about three inch diameter) and was coughing for 6 months before they did a biopsy and found it was melanoma. The coughing only stopped when I got into keytruda as the tumour was shrinking. However when I was doing other treatments that were not working (dabrafenib) ipilimumab) I found that the medication that got me through the night was a morphine based med that my dr gave me that is specifically a cough suppressant. It is a very diluted form and I had no other side effects from it and no problem stopping it. I was also taking a codeine based cough suppressant in the day but that did not work as well. Hoping all goes well for you and your husband
