I’ve heard great things about Dr. Markovic at Mayo. http://www.mayo.edu/research/faculty/markovic-svetomir-n-m-d-ph-d/bio-00085174 -

My husband treats with Dr. Shernan Holtan at the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Clinic. She is a BMT specialist who also has experience with Melanoma – did her fellowship with the Melanoma clinic at Mayo in Rochester. She is awesome!

I went to the U of M for about two years. I transferred to Mayo in the Fall of 2016. Given my experience at both places, I am so happy I make the drive to Rochester. PET/CT results the same day and multiple melanoma specialists looking over your case are two of my reasons for going to Mayo. They can also fit many appointments in one day. Last week I had my normal Derm appointment, MRI, blood work, onc consult, and my 19th Pembro all on Monday so I was back to work Tuesday.

I'm at MN Oncology at Abbott Northwestern. I'm very happy with the team there so far. They've been personable, done a good job of explaining everything to me, and seem very knowledgeable. I don't know if my current doctor is a "melanoma specialist" but I don't think he's had to be, because I don't think we've had any tough calls to make yet. It's been pretty much just staging and then adjuvant therapy. I'm happy that they got me on the clinical trial. Now if this flops and it looks like we're going to start getting into deeper water, then I'll press more for a real specialist (which maybe my doctor is; I like him and think he's smart, but I really don't know what % of his time is spent on melanoma cases). Anyway, please post recommendations in case we need them for the future.
