      Hi Everybody,

Im ahmed from Cairo – Egypt, Two weeks ago we discovered that my father is suffering from metastatic melanoma.  he is 67 Years old

What i read on the interenet is not helpfull and it's very disapointing My father didnt start the treatment yet.
still  waiting for Bt scan. But the doctors here told him that they will give him pills for 6 months and if the  disease didnt respond to the treatming they will stop it.

Please advice me what to do ? and where can i find melanoma specialist to bring my father to him.

      I highly appreciate your support

      Thanks

      Ahmed

In Egypt I'm not sure. The folks on melanoma international might know. I believe there is a lady by the name of Catherine Poole that helps folks a LOT. Here is that link: http://forum.melanomainternational.org/mif/viewforum.php?f=54&sid=0a3f138f75fe749471552efdc3902d81

If in the USA there are many melanoma specialists. If you could only go to one I would recomment Dr. Weber at Moffit in Tampa Florida.

As far as treatment if he is BRAF positive the USA has approved the Tafinlar/Mekenist combo. I have no idea about Egypt. The older BRAF is zelboraf. From what I've read the combo works better with less side affects. But everyone is different.

Depending on his tumor burden if he has a lighter tumor load and the tumors are not in critical locations there is Yervoy and Merck's PD1 in the USA. Also Bristol Meyer's Nivo PD1 is in Japan. These are immunotherapies.

Then there are clinical trials. Dr.  Weber has some good trials especially for treatment niave patients.

Also try to keep him strong with good fresh foods if you can. Also if he can walk some that is good for the digestion.

Dunno if that helps but I hope so. Good luck to you and your father.

As toi what meds aare available for him, it depends on what his Melanoma has for it's DNA mutations.  HAs he had a DNA mutation test conducted?  Ther three most effect immunotherapies are IL-2, Yervoy and PD-1.   These three treatments have a chance of having a positive effect reqardless of which DNA mutation one has.  Targeted chem therapy only has a chance if  one has the partiucular DNA mutation they are taargeted at.
