      My bf husband went to Er last week for kidney stone. He was told no stone but metastatic disease with hematoma to kidney. Referred to PMD or oncologist. He woke with difficulty breathing and was taken to ER again. Test revealed area to lung and lymph node. He had biopsy of area and more blood work. He is scheduled for PET scan Monday. Dermatologist found no unusual moles or skin lesions today. Stated could have gone inward. I have never heard of this, and now don’t know area of origin. This has happened within a weeks time. Other than kidney stones no other medical issues. He is late 50s.Has anyone heard of are going inward? any other helpful info, what to expect

          About 10% have an "unknown primary".  If you search this site using that term, you will find more information.

            Melanoma (if that is in fact the type of lesion that has been confirmed by biopsy) does occasionally occur as Stage III or IV disease with "unknown primary".  Meaning what may have been the initial cutaneous lesion was never noted and is now not present.  Beyond the complete lack of warning regarding the presence of melanoma, it is treated as melanoma generally is depending on stage the patient is found to be in.
