I have not been on in awhile and was looking to update my profile.  My husband had stage iiic melanoma with surgeries last April.  He decided not to have chemo as no cancer present after radiation. He had open heart surgery Dec 2013.  A pet/ctscan showed no evidence of disease.  February he started having problems walking.  Blood test showed nothing, went to a neurologist who ordered an MRI of the brain. He called tonight to say there are 3 rumors on the brain.  So scared

I had the same symptom (couldn't walk in a straight line).  Brain tumor surgically removed and followed up with GammaKnife in July of 2008.  No brain issues since.

                        Hi Carol,

I am back on, such a stressful, but fortunate week, and I have to find out how to have replies go to my email.  Thanks so much and I know our Radiation Onc said some people get the radiation and they never have it appear again.  Others not so lucky.  I worry about the amount of radiation cumulatively.  He had it last year for the melanoma right sita, and the lung cancer right lung.  PETscan last year and even this January showed NED.  However, now we know should have had a brain MRI as well.  thank you for the note and we are being quite positive now and I know we will until the next PETscan end of April.

Sorry for the fears and worries you and your husband are suddenly faced with.  But, the two poster are right!  Many of us have dealt with brain tumors and are still here to tell the tale!!!  There are several articles addressing brain met treatments on my blog if you are interested.  Hang in there.  It is scary. But, there is a lot of hope as well.  Yours, Celeste

                                  Hey fiver,

Brain tumors can be very scary and hard to deal with.  At the same time, they are survivable.

The fact that your husband doesn't appear to have any other disease in his body is a very good sign.

None of the treatments I recieved were todays therapies, yet I am still alive.

                                  I really wish you well.

My Mom had 8 treated in December. She never had stymptoms. She is also taking ipi/Yervoy. The neuro-oncologist is very keen on that.

So far so good with her scans for the treated tumors, but they did find many tiny tiny mets on a following. Nothing to do, but let ipi work. She responds well to it. So we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Ask questions, see someone with a lot of experience with GKR and make sure you have a plan on for your next steps. You will feel better with one. Be in control.

My husband was diagnosed with 13 brain tumors 3/12…  Hey, actually 2 yrs ago today!!!WBR didn't do anything, 14 mos on Zelboraf shrank the tumors, then Zelboraf quit working, 8/13 gamma knife on 5 tumors , all responded. 9/13 2 yervoy infusions, but tumors too aggressive for the slow acting Yervoy.. So, 11/13 combo dabrafenib/trametinib, one tumor started growing 1/14, rest are stable. 2/14 second gamma on growing tumor and 4 others…  results in April. Also just approved Yervoy in conjunction with dabrafenib/trametinib combo..  combo shrinks quick, yervoy is long lasting.
