I'm having the worst anxiety I have ever experienced in my life! I had a "suspicious mole" removed week before last, turned out positive melanoma 1mm (that's all I know for pathology). The mole developed inside a birthmark was there over a year before I started noticing. Now the surgeon can't get me in for a consuot untill nexy Monday the 9th! I mean this thing is still there reproducing and possibly spreading shouldnt I be in surgery STAT? I am a nursing student, it's finals, I'm at my wits end, I'm convinced it's spread, I'm convinced I'll be dead soon and I can't get any answers 🙁
The doctor who removed the mole went on vacation for a month, just leaving me with this mess. I swear the biopsy site won't heal, it still hurts and is red and has been a week and a half! And It looks like the remaining birthmark is getting darker…and here I sit, hands tied.

They have studied this very thing and waiting does NOT affect outcome. I have a link but no access to it now. It's never easy, but this is standard protocol. The hardest thing a cancer patient has to learn is that waiting is part of the system and you WILL be waiting. Hang in there….

Jasper, while any diagnosis with the word "melanoma" in it is distressing, It sounds like you realize that this level of panic and obsessing is overdoing it. What can we do to help you feel calmer? What can we say? I'm not being facetious here; I honestly want to know what I can do to help you feel better.

Best advice I can offer is to try not to worry and treat this as a bump in the road. For now, that is all this is. I am rapidly approaching 3 years from my initial diagnosis and my initial pathology was pretty discouraging. Nonetheless, life goes on and I cannot complain. I remain active with my kids and continue to enjoy life. While melanoma affects all of us on this board in some way, it does not define us. Stay positive and focus on your finals – good luck on those tests… we need more good nurses out there :).
