Hi my name is Dawn. I have just been diagnosed with melanoma . In 2007 I had surgery for uterine leiomyosarcoma and there was no adjuvent treatment. In 2008 I noticed a small lump in my neck and applied for insurance coverage and denied because of previous diagnoses, for the next three years I've been fighting for state insurance coverage and after quitting my job and allowing me and my disabled son to become homeless. I finally recieved medi-cal. The lump is now huge about 5 by 5 by 4 cm and is pressing on the caratoid artery, which means alot of pain.

I am waiting on insurance approval for surgery which is scary sense Molina is fighting on paying any test the doctors need to help me. I think they are hoping I croak before approving surgery :(. So thats my history.

Hello Dawn,
Welcome to this melanoma site, I hope it becomes a place of comfort and support for your questions and needs. I am so sorry for you and your son that life has been so difficult. Your current situation is surely another distress you don't need. Something I've noted many times on this board is that despite all the set backs you (we) encounter, in the end…..it all seems to work out in our best favor! I know there are intense times in this disease but I've come to realize it is a lot of anxiety too. Hang in there with the rest of us and I send my sincere wishes for a complete recovery! Keep us posted to your updates and discoveries and don't be discouraged if a post goes unanswered…..we're also out living and enjoying life as best we can. For the most part, almost always, someone on the board will respond. Good Luck to you and I hope your pain eases and surgery is just around the corner. Best wishes! …….. Swanee

Dear Dawn !
When Iread you story it seems absolutely unbelievible.
How on earth Doctors ,who swear by Hippocratic Oath ,can not give surgery if it is no insurance???????
They are not Doctors ,they are businessmans.
Nothing like this can ever happen in England – I had all my surgeries and appointments for free wothout special insurances ,thanks for NHS.
And you never become homelss – government would give you council house to live in ( especially with dissabled son).
I don't know what I would do in your situation . You are real figher. I will keep you in my prayes.
I wish you to get medical help ASAP and nice new home.
