I'm new to this forum, looking for a glimpse of hope. I was initially diagnosed with stage 4a melanoma which had spread to my lymph nodes in 2008. I had surgery to remove the tumor and all the lymph nodes under my left arm. One year of interferon treatment and I have been cancer free since, until my yearly Ct scan last week. I have access to my test results via an app on my phone, and it said that I have a cluster of nodules in the posterior left mid lung at 6mm, and a 2mm nodule in the lower left lobe. I was hoping for a little info so I could be prepared for the news from my doctor. I'm scared and I don't know what to think.

Sorry you've had to see results without an explaination. I know some people like to see their results before their doctor appt, but it can cause quite a bit more anxiety than not knowing at all when stuff like this comes up. Lungs are nortorious for nodules… even in perfectly healthy people with no history of cancer. I had similar size nodules show up about a year ago, we waited for the next scan in 3 months and then they were gone. So, it is not necessarily mets, with that size you won't be able to do a biopsy. It is likely your onc will say, lets wait and scan in 3 months and see if they're still around. If they grow, then it might be melanoma, if they stay the same or go away, then probably not melanoma. Would also be wise to get a PET/CT for the next scan, if the nodules are still around and grow a bit then you'll want to know if there is any uptake on the PET. Try not to over worry about these, my oncologist said that if she scanned 100 healthy non cancer patients that about half would have nodules in their lungs.. lungs are just tricky like that.

Jenn's right! Additionally, treatment options for melanoma are much improved just since 2011…..should there be a need. I wish you well. Celeste

I read my chest xray results showing a mass and CTScan recommended and had to wait 2 days for Dr to call me back. Still won't forgive her for that. Lots of anxiety. The not knowing is horrible. CTScan recommended Petscan. We were shocked when other tumors 'lighted' up and the lung was not the primary tumor. Actually was a bump on my back that i thought was a fatty tumor. That bump has disappeared by the way. Anxious to see what is left in the left lower lobe of my lung. So things are NOT what they seem.
