New mole removed

      I had a new mole removed today from my stomach area that my derm said was suspicious. It was slightly under 5mm. He told me before he did it that if there was pigmentation under the skin it's usually a bad sign.  Well, he did a deep shave biopsy and said it was all clear and that he always likes to be overly cautious. Has anyone else heard of this pigmentation description?

          It's a matter of depth.  Most moles are "superficial" – in the epidermis only.  Some normal moles are a little deeper.  Sounds like he shaved it and would have seen something left behind if it had been a deeper melanoma.  Had the mole changed?

                I hadn't noticed much if any change. He said this is the last one that looks suspicious. "If you're looking for a doctor to sit and watch suspicious moles that's not me" was what he said.
