Hello everyone,
About a year and a half ago, 2-3 months prior to my 27th birthday, a new mole appeared on my chest. Over the course of few months it generally stayed the same size and color although I didn't take pictures of it so there might have been some subtle changes. It's around 3 mm in diameter and it's medium to light brown, lighter than most of my other moles. I showed it to my dermatologist few weeks ago. He viewed it through dermatoscope and concluded that it look benign and no need for excision. So I decided to follow it to see if it changes. However, few days ago I developed folliculitis in the area near the mole and I started scratching the area. Unfortunately, I accidentally cut through a mole with my fingernail even though I didn't scratch hard and the mole ended up bleeding for a few minutes. Now there is a small wound (1-2 mm) there, but the problem is that large part of mole is gone. There is only little pigment left on the sides of the cut and whole mole now looks pretty different. What should I do now? I'm afraid that if it was early melanoma I won't be able to track changes now since most of it is missing. If it was melanoma will it grow back and increase in size? Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank you
