Doc decided to cancel the keytruda il10 trial I was supposed to start today. He wants to be more aggressive and do the non trial keytruda plus abraxane. Not sure when that will start. Doc said today but nurses are saying this weekend or next week.
Any thoughts about that combo? I guess it's what I'll go ahead and try. It's one dose. Then 3 weeks another dose. Then 3 weeks and scan. He said abraxane is usually weekly but since he's combining keytruda it will be 3 weeks. I've been off treatment exactly a month so hopefully it starts soon. I'm getting in much worse shape than I was a few weeks ago when we first came here.
Also if I understood right they can't do genetic testing on my shoulder. The biopsy doc swore he could tell on his ct the difference between necrotic and not. But all the cores they took out were necrotic. So no testing. No til tcell treatments. He said I wasn't in good enough shape for til anyway.
Also the tiny needle kidney biopsy was also mostly necrotic so they can't tell what type of cancer it is. It did have melanin in it. But the scans show it was bigger than last month so it must not all be necrotic.

Hi artie
thanks for the update. Glad you are starting treatment soon. Stay strong as I know you always are. We are all praying for you to find the treatment that knocks this disease and gives your poor body a chance to strengthen again I don't know anything about abraxane but now that you have mentioned it I will research thanks

I think abraxane was invented in 1990 for breast cancer. At mayo they wanted me to do a abraxane plus some nano particleized chemo trial.
I just haven't heard any of us doing abraxane before. But at least it's with keytruda so maybe it will help me.

Hey Artie,
So sorry that things are still "off again – on again"! I know you just want to get the party started!!! Also, sorry about the TIL being out, at least for now. I know you were looking forward to it. But, I am actually heartened that so much of samples they attained from your tumors was necrotic!!! That is awesome in its own way! Additionally, while Abraxane alone might not be the best cure for melanoma….researchers are learning everyday that when drugs that help a bit are COMBINED with immunotherapies….the results are MUCH BETTER than either of the single agents provide on their own!!! In the link I just posted above….I was really impressed that something so simple as combining ipi with GM-CSF improved results so much. SO….I am hopeful about your Keytruda/Abraxane combo!!!! Hope they get you started soon! Hang in there! Much love, Celeste

His logic is he wants to be more aggressive. He thinks this will show a response sooner. Especially with my bone tumors in the spine. He believes this will be better for me. He also said the il10 could cause the tumor in my head that is pressing on my brain to bleed which would be very bad. He said the keytruda abraxane has about a 25 to 30 % response rate. Or maybe he just meant the abraxane I dunno.
He said to get the first dose here then 2nd dose in 3 weeks at home. Then in 6 weeks come back for scans and plan b. Might include freezing some tumors to try and stimulate the immune system.
Thats pretty much all he said.
So I hope he is being honest and he thinks this is better for me and not like that Nashville doc last year that took one look at my spine and wouldn't hardly talk about his trial. I dunno.

Really anon? How do you do this? Use people's name as though that's ok when you don't provide your own? I was taught if you can't say something positive, don't say anything at all. I think Artie made things very clear about why the doc made his recommendation in the original post. Not to mention, there IS data regarding Abraxane and melanoma….I guess in your wisdom you just chose to overlook that part. Yep, Abraxane has side effects. If only the docs at MD Anderson had all the knowledge, not to mention, uplifting spirit, that you do.
Sorry, Artie. I hate jerks. But I love you. C

If there was a "like" button, Celeste/Bubbles, I'd like your last post a hundred times! (Actually, all your posts deserve a ton of likes. I'm in awe of your knowledge.)
Artie, you are always in my thoughts and prayers. I have confidence that your doctors are doing their very best to heal you. Keytruda helped you and maybe Abraxane will give it the extra boost you need. Spine mets. Ugh. I've dealt with them too and they bothered me the most of anything.
I went to a melanoma patient symposium at Georgetown on Saturday and our future is looking good, Artie!!!!! Dr. Atkins (Lombardi Cancer Center at Gtown and my doctor) is very excited about the progress being made in the treatment of melanoma as well as many of cancers.
Let's win this battle!!!!
