Hi all,
As of April 28th I found out my biopsy from my upper left arm came back as a melanoma. I got the call from my dermatologist. I pretty much blanked out after hearing the word "melanoma". I did remember her saying the depth was 1.7mm. I'm located in Lakeland, FL and on April 5th (Melanoma Monday) I will be going to Tampa for my consultation for my SNB with Dr. Zager.
I'm trying to remain positive. I am a worrying regardless and I made the mistake of Dr. Googling differnent scenarios. The most anxiety is the unexpected.
I'd appreciate any information.
Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I would stay away from Google for now. There is much out on the web about melanoma that's outdated and scary. Many of the statistics you see on the web were compiled from a period when there were few treatment options for melanoma.
Melanoma treatments have literally exploded over the past two-three years so there are a number of treatment options for melanoma that were not available before then. More good stuff is in the pipeline and there's no telling where we're all going to land in another 2-3 years.
Janner, who posts here frequently is very knowledgable about the depths. Since I never had a mole I can't offer you any information on that.

I know it's easier said than done but try not too worry right now. There's a very good chance your SNB will be negative and you'll never have another episode with melanoma the rest of your life. You'll be able to look back at this as a wake up call. Try to stay positive for now as best you can. IF the SNB does come back positive you can take some comfort in what Linny expressed and the fact that you are being treated at one of the top melanoma sites in the country.
