My husband was diagnosed a couple months back with stage 1b Nodular Melanoma on his right shoulder. No ulceration, no Mitotic rate, breslow depth 1.4 mm, Clarks level 3/4. WLE and sentinel node scheduled for Feb 11th.
My question is this; for the past couple months he's been experiencing pain in the same shoulder. We have just assumed it's related to an 'over used, 65 year old' shoulder. We are with a Melanoma specialist in Ann Arbor. My husband has not shared this pain with his Dr. . We don't want to look for any more problems but we don't want to miss any either.
Should we be getting this addresses before his surgery on the 11th? By the way, there doesn't seem to be any swelling, no node swelling, just pain.
Help?

I should clarify my question; I'm concerned as to the possibility of his shoulder pain being a result of the cancer spreading in his shoulder. Or is it just impossible that could be the case. We are traveling out of state at the moment and won't be home till next week, right before his surgery on the 11th. I'm just wondering if we should call his Dr. or are we letting our mind run in a direction it shouldn't.

So I'm no medical expert, but my opinion is that you should give your doctor the opportunity to decide whether the pain should be further investigated, or not. Though it sounds like it is probably just "old shoulder", it still bears mentioning as a precaution before you show up for surgery because it is in the same vicinity as the problem mole.
