Hi all , sorry this is a question to all the ladies dealing with Mel, but any one who can give advice .

Has I posted before Christmas my scans was a call from consultant and said he could not see any change but still awaiting full report. Going tomorrow for full report. One thing he did mention was both my ovaries was enlarged. I am 49 and my monthly cycle has been hit and miss for the last year. Was not sure if it is menapause or stress worrying. My GP said to me there is cysts on both of them, but I am worrying after reading Mel can spread to ovaries. Plus it also said most enlarged ovaries are usually cysts unless you have gone through menapause or history of spreading cancer.

Has anyone experienced cysts on ovaries around menapause age. I am hoping due to my cycle change it is due to this. I have asked it to be checked from my GP awaiting appointment now.

      Thanks guys for support.

I have large cysts on both ovaries – one is like 8cm – that have been monitored.  When I was actively monitoring, I was in peri-menopause and maybe 1 – 1.5 years later I had stopped having periods.  So definitely between 3 -1 years prior to menopause I still had multiple cysts on each ovary.  in fact, I had a CT last year (after periods had stopped) and the cysts were noted then — CT was trying to rule out melanoma as a cause for severe anemia.  Once I explained that I had already been monitored for cysts, they didn't investigate those further.  I suspect they are still there now.  🙂  Cysts are so common and despite the thought that mel can travel to ovaries, it still isn't the most likely.

My mom actually did end up having a grapefruit size tumor on her ovary, a few years after menopause. It started out as a small polyp the year before on her uterine lining, which was removed and tested positive for melanoma. She ended up a year later with the giant tumor on her right ovary, which unfortunately was also melanoma. The doctors said it’s super rare and have only seen it once or twice before. So overall it is rare that it would spread there, but is something that can happen. Not to scare you or anything! Just wanted to share the experience since you asked.
Hope you get some good news and it turns out to be nothing. My mom’s dr even said 99% of the time the ovary area ends up being nothing, guess my mom just fell on the wrong side of the percentage!

                                                        Hi Scooby,

Think we are both in the UK. Most likely explanation is simple cysts before your ovaries finally shut up shop.

                                                        this link    https://www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/patients/patient-information-leaflets/gynaecology/ovarian-cysts-before-the-menopause.pdf

might be useful. Really unlikely to be  melanoma prior to menopause but doesn't always make it easy to put to the back of your mind whenit has been remarked on as a scan finding. Think positive… I am struggling with sweats and chills as my internal thermostat is not working well. Probably menopause- but could be an unholy combo of menopause / liver mets/ ipi nivo side effects/ untreated knee infection June -September. Think I'm going to blame menopause for now unless evidence to the contary- as started a couple of monrths after last period , whilst liver mets must have been microscopic and before ipi nivo started. Really weird though … with me for 5-8 weeks then gone , then back again- triggered at night, standing at the stove- heat, eating hot food, and by exercise.

Had some good news today though- liver tests trending down again – pred tapered every 5 days from 50mg so first day on 30mg today-stand a chance of getting more of the combo if all sorted within 6 weeks of 3rd dose being due…So hard to figure out what is going on.

Hope you get an answer that is normal for perimenopause  real soon so it will put your mind at rest

I am not at a menopausal age, but I have had a cyst on my left ovary since my first scan. They gave me an ultrasound to rule out melanoma. There was no mass to it, so they are not concerned. I’m sure you can request one to put your mind at ease.

I have – I've seen it on ultrasound, both ovaries covered with cysts – I have no other symptoms and have never treated it. Please relax, I find this to be really, really unlikely.
