Quaking 5 day headache, saw the Doc, wants to try steriods for one day.  Doc says the steriods can counter act the effectivness of Opdivo.  So far we have had one treatment, a cocktail mix of Opdivo and Yervoy. No side effects for the first two weeks then BAM! Nailed with this 5 day headache.  Has anyone else delt with this?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Prednisone (even high dose) will not impact treatment effect.  This has been studied.  Go for the Prednisone and get relief.

That's nice to hear the Prednisone won't impact the treatment.  Funny thing…the doc checked the MRI for any swelling of glands, didn't see any, did not check cortizol levels, said he wouldnt do that till almost the end of treatment?  but gave a one day script of the Prednisone. The up is the Prednisone made the headache disappear.  Wonder what will happen when he's off it tomorrow.

Hi ReallyAgain, headache can be linked with Hypophysitis swelling of the pituary gland in the brain. Endocrine system issue usally require a good endocrinalogist. Here is a link to Dr. Michael Postow talking about IRAE's in Immunotherapy, I hope it is helpfull. The link is from PeerView presentations. http://learn.peerviewpress.com/p/index.html?collection=150204255-2-2&presentationid=p3&SpecialtyID=74&ProfessionID=12&Promocode=815

Appropriate timing, my husband has had 3 infusions of 10 mg yervoy and bam! Headaches, red eyes, fatigue like he has never experienced and welts and itchy over 95percent of his body. We went to docs today and started him on prednisone 3x a day. From what I read here, it may be the best way to go. There is no way He can do further treatment like this.

We just started, and it may be a week or two then they will start weaning him off. I cannot, nor can he, believe the difference in him in one day once he started with this. Not sure whether be will get the 4th ipi 10 mg infusion though, maybe he can do the 3 mg.

Thanks, I will check out the link.  I was wondering why the doctor gave him prednisone when he didn't see any sweeling of the glands and or didn't check the cortisol levels?
