I recently had melanoma surgery on my forehead. They did a wide excision and removed a few lymph nodes. My surgeon thought we would get results within a day or two. I am now nine days post surgery and still awaiting results. Is this a normal time frame for results?

I don't know what's normal or typical, but ET had her surgery on a Thursday afternoon.  The lab received the specimen on Friday, and we had the path report back on Monday.

It's on the lengthy side, especially if your surgeon thought it would be just a day or two.  I would definitely call Monday morning and see what's holding things up.

I've always gotten results within about 3 days, but Australia is great like that. I would be making a call for your results – the worst they can say is 'not yet'. Sometimes a second opinion on pathology is needed, or more complex/extensive pathology testing.

In my case, we finally found out that they were planning to sit on the results until I made it into the office in person. They were going to wait until my postop appointment the following week. Only through my wife calling and pestering them did they finally admit to having the results already (because my wife called the pathologists office, which admitted that the turnaround time on results was 24 hours). That night, I got a call from the doctor. In my case, the news wasn't great…my sentinel node was positive. But I was glad to know instead of living in limbo.

I hope your noceds are clean!
